They are quick to notice it is you who was pounding on the door the first time. They are not as kind this time. You are issued a citation for Disorderly Conduct. ’The captain speaks, "You are hereby ordered to appear in person within the next five days at the Justice of the Peace to face trial or pay the fine. The fine is 500 gold. Do not fail to show up." They ride off. ØAs you set foot through the gate, two castle guards appear. They ask what business you have coming through the gate. You show them the letter and are escorted to the castle. ˘They are not as kind this time. You are issued a citation for disorderly conduct. One notices you milling around and tells you to move along. wThe town courthouse. The Justice of the Peace sits behind a large desk. Two of his aides are seated one on each side. ˇThe town hall. The desk clerk asks what you need. ]The clerk sighs, "I'm sorry, the King is currently booked up. You will have to check later." ˇ"Ah, yes. I do have an opening for you to meet with the King. Let me just sign you in. Now, you all sign here. Now here. Here. And finally, here." After jumping through the required hoops, you get your appointment with King Allstin. ˇThe clerk continues, "Here is the required paperwork you will need to present to the guards in order to have your meeting with King Allstin. I hope you have something to talk about as the king is a busy man." She hands you some papers. ˇ"Thank you for visiting. Come back soon." ÛThe guards usher you to the criminal waiting area. One of them speaks to you. "You have been charged with Disorderly Conduct. You may plead guilty, pay the fine and have your names cleared. You may plead not guilty and face trial. Or, ... ¯...you may plead no contest and throw yourselves on the mercy of this court. Your names will be called shortly and you will be brought before Justice Swyfft." It looks like you will have some time on your hands. This adventure is not going well. îWhat would you like to do while you are waiting amongst the lower forms of the inhabitants of Turnstil, of which you are now members....momentarily? ºDon't you ever learn? Trying to break out of the holding pen proves fruitless. There are far too many guards and no way to avoid them. You are immediately brought before Justice Swyfft. ˘He speaks, "So, these are the ruffians who were trying to break into the castle? And now they have tried to escape! No matter what your plea, you are found guilty of disorderly conduct and attempting to escape justice. Your penalty...500 gold.... å...for Disorderly Conduct and 5,000 gold for trying to escape. A total of 5,500 gold. You will pay now or be put in prison. Who will pay? √Justice Swyfft speaks. "Let this be a lesson to you. Justice is swift in Turnstil. Criminals and ruffians beware. I will not tolerate this type of activity in my town!" You are escorted out. ˝Justice Swyfft turns beet red. "You don't have enough to pay the fine? Well, you are going to have to spend some time in our cozy little prison. Sentence - 45 days. And of course, you will donate your items to charity as you have no use for them.... è....while sitting in jail." The guards quickly grab you and remove your belongings. You are thrown into the town dungeon to rot for 45 days." ˇA Turnstil captain and sergeant are working some troops. They spot your escape attempt and attack. ˇA Turnstil lieutenant and sergeant are being escorted by two guards. They spot you and attack. 7A patrol of four Turnstil guards spots you and attacks. ˇThe cell door is locked and a heavy iron bar is braced across it from the other side. A most formidable prison cell. gQuite an effort. You are an accomplished opener of locks! It pops open and you make good your escape. xYour tremendous strength explodes the door. From the outside of the door you easily dismantle the barring mechanism and turn the huge lock counter-clockwise to free your friends. You make good your escape. kA contingent of guards was working on their marching until they spotted you round the corner. They attack! ˇYou are sitting in a cell. ÖThe castle guard notices you and sounds the alarm before they attack. Sneaking onto the castle grounds was probably not a good idea. &The sign reads, "Wizard's Hide-A-Way". ˛A husky old dwarf lumbers over and holds out his hand like a stop sign. "This here is a toll bridge. 500 gold to cross. This is the only way across this river, and since I'm the only one who can drop the barrier, I suggest you pay, or ya don't cross." gOuch. You run headlong into an invisible barrier of some sort. From a nearby shack a figure emerges.
Will you pay? ì"Fine. Have fun on that half of the river!" He lumbers over to his shack and slams the door. A tremendous jolt pushes you back from the barrier. îThe dwarf thanks you and lowers the barrier. He yells as you ride off, "Remember, this is a one way pass. You will have to pay for each crossing!" FThe invisible barrier is in front of you. What would you like to try? <The barrier is no longer present. You may cross the bridge. 8You circumvent the barrier and can continue on your way. wWhoa! Better duck, 'cause that lightning bolt is coming right back at ya off the barrier! Too late. You get sizzled. ˇThe flow of water here is churning and not crossable. You must turn back. You scamper up to dry land; happy to be in one piece, and not in the churning waters. ˇA tiny shack lies in front of a bridge. But when you approach, it disappears and moves to the other side of the bridge! ˇYou sail through the air avoiding the magic traps set by the dwarf. You set down on his front door step. He is quite startled. The pulse of magic courses through your veins. Your head spins as the world goes black. Only the caster maintains a keen sense of awareness as the magic flows through the air. ˇYou shake your head as the world reappears with a gradual brightening. You realize you have teleported right to the front door of the shack. The dwarf is quite surprised. ¬You lift aloft, floating above the ground beneath you. With butterflies in your stomach, you gently set down right on the front door step of the shack. The dwarf is quite surprised to see you. ;The invisible barrier is gone.
